Mariinsky Theatre

Based out of Saint Petersburg, Russia Mariinsky Theatre laid its grounds in 1860 only to go on to become an acclaimed theatre of the 19th century. It has staged a series of iconic and awe-inspiring masterpieces that including that of Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky, and Rimsky-Korsakov. Alberto Cavos was the architect of Mariinsky Theatre which now includes the Mariinsky Ballet, Mariinsky Opera, and Mariinsky Orchestra. The theatre got its name from Empress Maria Alexandrovna, who was the wife of Tsar Alexander II. The theatre’s name has been changed multiple times over its course.
Popularly known as the Mariinski Theater, it was first named Imperial Mariinsky Theatre that changed to State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet in 1920, Leningrad State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet in 1924, Kirov State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet in 1935 and State Academic Mariinsky Theatre 1992.
