Christoph Marthaler
Christoph Marthaler (born 17 October 1951, Erlenbach, Switzerland) is a Swiss director and musician, working in the style of avant-garde theater, such as Expressionism and Dada, a theater of the absurd elements and opera director trained at the school of Jacques Lecoq in Paris. Christoph Marthaler worked during the 1970s at the Neumarkttheater in Zurich, alongside Horst Zankl (de), as a theater musician.
From September 2000 to 2004 he directed the Schauspielhaus Zurich together with playwright Stefanie Carp (de). In 2010, he was an associate artist at the Avignon Festival. In 2011, he received the Anneau Hans-Reinhart, the highest honor for a theater personality in Switzerland.
